1. Missing^{1 the boat 错过（好机会、好东西等）}

A: Jenny is not coming today. She decided^{2 to go shopping with her sister instead.
Jenny 今天晚上不来了。她决定改跟她姐姐逛街去了。}

B: I see somebody is missing the boat. I wonder how she's going to feel once she finds out who's here tonight.
有人错过大好机会了。我想了解她一旦了解今天晚上哪个在这里时的反应会是如何。

Missing the boat的原意是错过要搭的船，在口语里常被用来指错失的意思。

2. If You Snooze, You Lose! 假如你不注意，就错过良机了。

A: Hey! Where did all the cake go? I haven't got any of it.
嘿！蛋糕都到什么地方去了？我一点都没吃到。

B: There's no cake left. Your brother ate the last piece. If you snooze, you lose!
（蛋糕）都没了。你弟弟吃了最后一块。你没快点行动，机会就没了啊！

有的闹钟上面有一个叫你可以在闹钟响后, 再小睡一下的按键。这个按键就叫snooze。所以If you snooze, you lose. 的意思就是假如你贪睡的话，你就不会赢了，常常用来表示假如你不注意/不快点行动，就会失去机会了。
